Located down a Financial District alleyway, BIX pays homage to a generation long gone. Once you enter, you'll feel like you're in a dim 1940s speakeasy. The best seats in the house are upstairs and overlook the bar and ground floor. Oftentimes, a jazz band is playing.
As for food, the truffled burger, while expensive, is great with the crispy fries. BIX is also famous for its chicken hash. Go with the bananas Foster or the chocoate brioche bread pudding afterwards. As for the service, it's excellent. I adore the maitre d', who stops by each table with his greetings and who one time comped my drink and gave me the best table in the house because my lunch date stood me up. It's that kind of a place.
Entrees are $20-30. A fantastic 3-course prix fixe lunch is offered on Fridays for $22.
Dress:
Business casual and up. Don’t wear jeans, even if they are of the $150 variety.
Noise:
You'll most likely be seated in a booth, which helps keep your party private. However, you'll still need to raise your voice a bit, as a jazz band plays almost nightly.
