This place is also owned by Gerald Hirigoyen of Fringale and Piperade fame (though he now owns only Piperade and Bocadillos). He’s famous for Basque cuisine. The menu consists of the namesake bocadillos, or small warm Spanish-style sandwiches, and other small plates. My favorites are the Catalan sausage bocadillo and the chicken skewers with yogurt sauce. For dessert, don’t miss “the arm of a gypsy”, a hazelnut mousse cake. The place is very casual, with mostly communal tables and bar seating.
Chic casual and up. Sevens and Diesels are OK, faded 501s and shorts aren’t.
Noise:
You’ll have to raise your voice, as the restaurant is small and you’ll most likely be at a communal table.
Reservations:
None taken. You should be fine for lunch and before 6:30PM. However, be prepared to wait at least half an hour if you get there after 7PM.
Payment:
Cash and credit cards.
Parking:
Bocadillos is on the edge of North Beach, so parking is hit or miss. Allow 5-10 extra minutes to find it, or park in one of the paid lots nearby. Alternatively, take one of the Columbus buses and walk.
Date place?
Yes, if you don’t mind sitting at a communal table or bar and the uncertainty of a potentially long wait.
