This used to be Bizou, consistently rated one of the Bay Area’s Top 100 restaurants for years. Recognizing the neighborhood and economy for what it is, owner-chef Loretta Keller changed the concept. Now the menu is a mix of less expensive small plates and entrees (everything used to be at least $5 more).
Start with the COCOmole tacos. Decide whether you want to get your own entree or split a few plates with the table. You can't go wrong with the spaghettini with squid and lemon, duck confit, or the truffled squash blossom flatbread. The signature dish, both when it was Bizou and now, is the beef cheeks. For dessert, don't pass up the vacherin, made of meringues and the best toasted almonds.
