This is one of only a few Southern Indian places in the city. The namesake crepe-like dosas with various fillings make up half the menu. I like the simple one with spiced potatoes. Uttapams, or open-faced dosas, are also available. My favorite dish on the menu is the channa bhatura, a chickpea stew served with roti canai, a savory flatbread. Carnivores beware: there is only one meat dish and one seafood dish on the menu.
Chic casual and up. Sevens and Diesels are OK, faded 501s and shorts aren’t.
Noise:
This place is loud, and you’ll need to shout.
Reservations:
Reservations are taken only for parties of six or more. Otherwise, expect to wait in line for at least half an hour. (OpenTable)
Payment:
Cash and credit cards.
Parking:
Parking in the Mission is a nightmare at almost any time of the day. However, there are a few paid lots nearby. Alternatively, take BART or a Mission or Valencia bus.
Date place?
Although the food and atmosphere suggests yes, the potential for a very long wait says no.
