El Mansour (Moroccan)
San Francisco: Richmond

Because of birthday and bachelorette parties, I’ve been to all (and I mean all) of the city’s cheesy Moroccan food places complete with belly dancing and mediocre food. El Mansour is the least cheesy of them. Though it does have the belly dancing (and you will be forced to participate), the food is actually really good. My favorite is the sweet and salty bastela (a puff pastry filled with minced chicken and almonds) that comes with every meal. I also like the chicken with lemon and olives. With all of the sides that come with your meal, you will develop a belly even if you didn’t have one before.

Cuisine: Moroccan
Price: Set dinners are $25-30 and include bread, cous cous, soup, salad, puff pastry, an entrée of choice, mint tea, and dessert.
Dress: Chic casual and up. Sevens and Diesels are OK, faded 501s and shorts aren’t.
Noise: You might have to raise your voice a bit, particularly during the belly dancing, but it’s not too bad.
Reservations: Recommended.
Payment: Cash and credit cards.
Parking: Parking is pretty easy this far out.
Date place? It’s more of a large group birthday/big celebration place.
