Gregoire is a takeout business that serves gourmet hot food in recyclable boxes (you are in Berkeley, after all). The menu changes monthly and I recommend going at lunch (dinner is a bit pricey for what it is). At lunch, I've had delicious a duck confit and chanterelle sandwich, as well as smoked chicken with creamy leeks over puff pastry (which I still think about). Order the potato puffs anytime.
Though Gregoire would have made my list by food alone, the staff is a bonus. The men speak in French accents. No matter what age, all of the women are “honey”s. Men, you’ll get hassled if Gregoire doesn’t like what you order (“Chicken? Come on, man. Have a little originality!”). If you can, snag a counter seat to witness this entertainment. Otherwise, take away and sit on the grass median in front of The Cheeseboard or on sidewalk benches along Shattuck.
