Lupa (Italian)
San Francisco: Noe Valley

Lupa turns out “Roman” food. How that is different from northern or southern Italian food, I am not completely sure, but there are unique items on the menu that make me believe them. I love the bucatini, which is thick pasta shaped like straws. It comes perfectly al dente. It’s one of those places where they make you feel like an old guest who’s been coming for years, though the restaurant is only a few years old.

Cuisine: Italian
Price: Entrees are $10-20.
Dress: Casual. The faded 501s and shorts are OK.
Noise: Not a problem.
Reservations: Recommended.
Payment: Cash and credit cards.
Parking: It’s not great but not impossible. Allow 5-10 minutes extra to find parking. Otherwise, the restaurant is right off of 24th, where several bus lines converge.
Date place? Sure.
