You know that Pizzaiolo is no ordinary pizza joint when it's owned and run by a Chez Panisse alum.
Given the name, it's no surprise that the thin-crust pizzas are standouts. However, I like the pastas even more. There are usually only 1-2 of them on the daily-changing menu, but make it a point to order at least one. The pizzas range from the classic margherita to the more esoteric. For example, I've seen wild nettles on the menu many times.
The prices are good for the quality of food. If you're a party of two, order a pizza and a pasta and you'll be plenty full. A final word about the servers: though they look too cool for school, they are friendly and really know their stuff.
Definitely a buzzy, lively atmosphere, so you'll have to raise your voice a bit.
Reservations:
Highly recommended. However, they save a few tables for walk-ins. If you find yourself without reservations, go early or late.
Payment:
Cash and credit cards.
Parking:
Allow 5-10 minutes to find street parking. Otherwise, you can park in the Walgreen's lot across the street.
Date place?
Yes. The exposed brick gives this place a good balance of alternative Berkeley and quaint history vibe. Try getting one of the two-tops by the window overlooking Telegraph.
