Scala's Bistro (Italian)
San Francisco: Union Square

I was totally surprised that I liked this place so much. Despite its location in tourist central, it has excellent pastas. It has an old world Tuscan atmosphere with lots of maroons that’s somehow not cheesy and is a great option if you need a shopping break.

Cuisine: Italian
Price: Entrées are $15-25.
Dress: Chic casual and up. Sevens and Diesels are OK, faded 501s and shorts aren’t.
Noise: You need to raise your voice a little but it’s not too bad.
Reservations: Highly recommended. (OpenTable)
Payment: Cash and credit cards.
Parking: Street parking is almost impossible during the day but there are lots of paid lots nearby. The best one is probably the Sutter-Stockton lot. It’s only $5 if you enter after 6PM.
Date place? Yes, unless your date minds mingling with tourists.
