This is a place known by locals and tourists alike. It’s been written up many times. In this case, it lives up to the hype. It’s only open during the day, so get there by 3PM. The space is long and narrow and the only seating is at a long counter that runs the length of the restaurant. As the name implies, the oysters are always fresh. The guys behind the counter may be brusque at times but they know what they’re doing…trust them.
Everyone’s close together, but you won’t be worried about noise. You’ll just be happy that you finally got a seat and that there are still oysters to be eaten.
Reservations:
None taken. Line up to get seated (that line is more often than not out the door). Be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes if you come during a busy time. Don’t even think about coming with more than 1-2 other people if you want to sit together.
Payment:
Cash only.
Parking:
Parking in this area is challenging to put it mildly. Take a Van Ness or Polk bus instead.
Date place?
In conjunction with other day activities, this is fun. But if you’re starving, go somewhere else. You can never predict the wait.
