Tartine (Baked Goodies / Cafe Culture)
San Francisco: Mission

This is a bakery that doubles as a café. As the name implies, several varieties of open-faced sandwiches are offered. My favorite is the proscuitto. The quiche is also a good choice when offered. For dessert, choose from the decadent pastries in the glass display cases. I’ve had a good coconut cake and lemon meringue here. The nearby Bar Tartine serves dinner, while this café closes in the late afternoon.

Cuisine: Baked Goodies / Cafe Culture
Price: Tartines are $7-10. Pastries are $2-6.
Dress: Casual. The faded 501s and shorts are OK.
Noise: Not a problem.
Reservations: None taken. There are only a few tables, so you can either take away or stick it out until a table clears (usually a 5-10 minute wait, but you need to hover).
Payment: Cash and credit cards.
Parking: Parking in the Mission is a nightmare at almost any time of the day. However, there are a few paid lots nearby. Alternatively, take BART or a Mission or Valencia bus.
Date place? Yes, in conjunction with other day activities. However, because it doesn’t serve hot food beyond quiches and maybe pizza, it’s not a date meal place on its own.
