This is not a restaurant but an operation in a warehouse. The clientele is primarily Indian families, mixed with students and in-the-know yuppies. All of my Indian friends swear by Vik’s and some make a weekly pilgrimage here. The menu consists almost entirely of Indian street food. Most portions are snack (chaat) sized and much of the food is deep fried (yay!). Although the food is served on paper plates, don’t be fooled…this place is not fast. I’ve waited for 45 minutes to get two things…and it was three o’clock in the afternoon.
Casual. The faded 501s and shorts are OK. Be warned: no matter what you order, you’ll exit smelling like Indian food.
Noise:
Noisy at busy times, as there are close to 70 people standing around waiting for their food. I’m not kidding. But, there are only a few plastic tables, so stand or take away.
Reservations:
None taken.
Payment:
Cash only.
Parking:
Street parking is easy.
Date place?
Only if you want to show your Indian-food-loving date how well you know Berkeley.
