There’s another location on Solano Avenue but this is the one I went to while in college. Now I live a few blocks away so it looks like I’m sticking with it. Zachary’s offers both thin crust and stuffed, but everyone goes there for the stuffed. My favorite is the Zachary’s Special (sausage, green pepper, onion, and mushroom), but you can also create your own. They are most famous for their Spinach & Mushroom.
Zachary’s also sells half-baked pies to go. You can order to go, but call ahead first. If you get a busy signal, keep trying. There are three phones and it’s the job of three staff to man those phones continually. It’s not fast if you place your order on site. Individual slices to go are only sold before 4PM.
It’s pretty noisy so you’ll have to raise your voice.
Reservations:
None taken, unfortunately. Come early or expect to wait at least half an hour.
Payment:
Cash only.
Parking:
Compared to San Francisco, parking here is not bad but allow 5 minutes extra to find it. Alternatively, take BART to the Rockridge stop and walk one block north.
Date place?
It’s more of a friends place. There are more college students and families and not so many couples.
