Zuppa (Italian )
San Francisco: SOMA
Owned by the same folks that own Globe, the best table is the six-top on the balcony that overlooks the rest of the house. This is the reason I’m recommending this place. It’s great for friends. The food, simple but excellent, is unfortunately overpriced by a few bucks. My favorite is the rigatoni with pork ragu and the lamb shank is so tender it falls off the bone.
Cuisine: Italian
Price: The pastas are $15-20 and meat and seafood entrees are $20-30.
Dress: Chic casual and up. Sevens and Diesels are OK, faded 501s and shorts aren’t.
Noise: The communal tables downstairs make it pretty noisy, but the upstairs is more intimate.
Reservations: Recommended. (OpenTable )
Payment: Cash and credit cards.
Parking: Parking should not be a problem at night. During the day, it’s more difficult but there are paid lots around. Otherwise, take the N-Judah.
Date place? Sure. Ask for a table upstairs, where it’s quieter.
